Camera in Honor Magic V2 and comparison with Galaxy Fold5, Huawei Mate X3, Galaxy S23 Ultra

Hello.

Honor has released its own interpretation of the flagship with a flexible screen, the Honor Magic V2 model, the device has a set of three main cameras, I was interested to see how they shoot. And compare with other devices at the same time.

The camera features are as follows:

  • 50 megapixels (f/1.9, OIS, laser autofocus)
  • 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens (f/2.0)
  • 20 Megapixels Telephoto (f/2.4, OIS), x2.5

For anyone familiar with Honor devices, the camera interface doesn’t look like anything new; This is common for different models.

The module extends slightly above the body, the cameras are covered by glass.

Let’s see the sample images. First, let’s compare them to the Huawei Mate X3.

In my opinion, the main camera module in the Honor V2 takes good photos, in some cases it beats the Mate X3 (no blurry focus on a flower, better white balance on a cup of coffee). Here we believe that the camera is at the level of Huawei, which I liked a lot at the time.

It’s interesting to compare the camera with the Galaxy S23 Ultra (which is my main device). Here we see that the V2 camera processes the image more gently, with no increase in sharpness of detail, which some people may not like.

Let’s try to use the x10 zoom, which is in the Magic V2 menu, as for me, it is completely useless, it is a tribute to marketing. Digital zoom cannot provide a clear image; It fades into blurry details. Look at the lake, how I have brought the greenery closer.

In one case we have optical zoom with the Samsung, in the other we have a blurry image. People on the mountains, the same situation, the image from V2 is very falling, something can be seen, but there is zero artistic value. So let’s understand that the actual zoom that can be used in the V2 is x2.5x. And that’s how it works.

Few pictures for comparison with Fold5, no need to draw conclusions here, you will see everything yourself.

Let’s see other images from this device to give you an idea of it.

Here are a small number of portraits.

Photos taken from the front camera.

Finally, it’s worth considering the video shooting capabilities; Here I will provide you only few videos so that you can evaluate their quality.

Summary results

Some time ago we blindly compared the photo quality of Magic vs Mate X3, Mi Mixfold 2, Galaxy Fold 4. Then the Honor model came third behind both Samsung and Huawei. This time the gap is closing, the camera is clearly worked on. But it is impossible to say that this camera performs at exactly the same level. It is in the camera area that Honor has a lot of room for improvement and hopefully the company realizes it.
