Google Jamboard, a whiteboard device and app, will be phased out in 2024, the company announced this week.
The Jamboard device is a 55-inch digital whiteboard intended for educational and work purposes. All license subscriptions for Jamboard devices expire on September 30, 2024, and backups are required before that date. The following day, on October 1, 2024, the device will expire its auto-update and will no longer receive software updates, Google explained in its blog about the shutdown.
Bard now has extensions for Google Drive, Gmail, YouTube, Maps and more.
The Jamboard app is currently accessible in Google Drive, and can be used without a Jamboard device. It’s also sunsetting: Starting October 1, 2024, users won’t be able to create or edit new Jams (whiteboard slides) on any platform. Google said it is integrating third-party whiteboard tools such as Figjam by Figma, LucidSpark by Lucid Software, and the visual workspace Miro throughout Google Workspace. According to Google, users have heard that these tools help their teams work better together, “in particular, they offer advanced features such as unlimited canvases, use of case templates, Voting and more.”
