Pixel 8 vs Pixel 7: Price

The Pixel 7 launched this time last year with a relatively affordable $599 price tag. However, if you want the Pixel 7 model with slightly more storage (128GB vs. 256GB), it’ll run you an extra $100. The base model of the Pixel 8 will be $100 more than its predecessor, with the 128GB phone starting at $699. Thankfully though, the 256GB version will only increase by a modest $60 to $759.

Pixel 8 vs Pixel 7: RAM and storage

In terms of storage options, the new base model of the Pixel 8 is the same as last year. The RAM configuration is also the same as last year.

Pixel 8 vs Pixel 7: Display and design

Despite the smaller display size, Google is keeping a similar design to the Pixel 7 for the Pixel 8. Despite the small loss in size, the Pixel 8 will still have a camera bar and a glossy design with a back glass made of Gorilla Glass Victus. Additionally, the Pixel 8 is only a tenth smaller than its predecessor with a brighter screen and higher refresh rate.

Although the design remains the same, Google is introducing new colors for the Pixel 8 that definitely stand out from the crowd. Along with the obligatory black (Obsidian) and white (Snow) options, the Pixel 7 had a Lemongrass color that was a vibrant, eye-catching green, golden hue. Google is mixing things up for the Pixel 8, ditching the Snow color and replacing it with Obsidian, Hazel and Rose.

Pixel 8 vs Pixel 7: Cameras

Not to sound like a broken record, but the camera upgrades between the Pixel 8 and Pixel 7 are marginal at best. The Pixel 7 camera is already pretty good, but not the best compared to other phones. Google seems to have the same specs in mind for the base model of its new flagship, with a new 50MP camera and a smaller aperture (better for gathering light). The FOV of the 12MP ultra-wide camera has also been increased from 114 degrees to 125.8 degrees.

Shooting video hasn’t changed much either, but the Pixel 8 has added a 24FPS mode. The Pixel 8 also comes with some new photo editing features like UltraHDR and Audio Magic Eraser.

Pixel 8 vs Pixel 7: Chipset

Google is boasting that its new Tensor G3 chip will “push the boundaries of on-device machine learning” and is including it in the Pixel 8. Tensor chips aren’t the most powerful compared to its opposition, like the Qualcomm Snapdragon and Apple’s A- series chipsets. But we’re not comparing the G3 to them. We’re comparing it to the Tensor G2, and it represents a big performance upgrade for the Pixel 8 over the Pixel 7.

Google is increasing the Pixel 8’s battery capacity to 4,600 mAh, up from the Pixel 7’s 4,355 mAh. The Pixel 8 will also charge faster with speeds ranging from 23W to 27W.
